Ladies match report

Banff RFC ladies see a huge improvement again, after hosting Orkney ladies at home.

The game was due to be good from the start, with clear skies and a great atmosphere at the club. Kick off came around, and the intensity from both teams was very high. Banff found their defence being tested from the beginning again, and made some great tackles to put Orkney under pressure on several occasions. Orkney started to use the experience they had within their team, and found themselves over the try line five times. Banff did exceedingly well to steady the scrums a bit more as each one came, especially with the mixed experience levels within the team. On several occasions, some great phases were put together, but the Orkney defence held strong. Just coming short of the line left the half time score at 0 - 29 to the visiting team.

The second half was another exciting one to watch, with a great display of women's rugby on show. Orkney began to exploit the spaces, but some great cover tackles from Louise Murray, Katrina Massie and Julie Partridge held them at bay on numerous occasions. They gained themselves a few more tries, but Banff showed great spirit, never giving up and always coming right back from each score. The end of the second half saw the best play from Banff, with a strong scrum ending in a try through the hands of captain Lyndsey Hester with a great number eight pick up. final score was 5 - 53 to Orkney. A special mention to all new girls on the pitch, in particular Moira Bremner who had a cracking first game after only two training sessions.

The next game for the women is Orkney away on Saturday the 22nd of April.
