On Saturday, Banff RFC Ladies travelled to Kellands Park, Inverurie, to play in a tournament in a bid to qualify for the Sarah Beaney Cup. Other teams from their league - Orkney and Inverness Craig Dunain - were there, with the winner going on to enter into the cup.

Orkney and ICD played first, with Orkney the eventual winners.

Banff then went on to play Orkney. In the first half, Orkney managed to score a few tries, but it wasn't unanswered. Banff used the hands well to get up to the line and a high tackle on scrumhalf Louise Murray resulted in a penalty try being given. In the second half, Banff's defence was solid, with only one try going past, and a lot more possession meant that they could use the ball to keep Orkney out.

Inverness Craig Dunain were next. ICD had three converted tries in the first half, but Banff did really well to retain the ball on several occasions and continually work to keep them from scoring any more. The second half saw ICD score another three, however Banff scored an impressive team try with some well worked phases over a period of time to allow scrum half Louise Murray to get her second. The referee took no time at all to tell the ladies that this was "the best try of the tournament".

Though they didn't qualify, the ladies had a brilliant day of some impressive rugby. Looking towards this upcoming season, the ladies feel very prepared for the games to come and can't wait to get started!
